Two wild and crazy guys

I'd like to thank the crazy fans from Toronto, who dress as umpires and call the games from the stands. Toronto embarrassed the Sox this week and the games would have been downright painful to watch had it not been for the umpire fans.

Here is Don and Jerry's commentary on the umpire guys. The are behind the plate, just to the right, barely in the frame. (It's worth enlarging the video)

They are most entertaining when they ring up a guy on a called third strike:

Awesome.

Sooner or later, he was bound to explode... Fight Night 2009

Classic. Not only did Youk charge the mound after getting hit by a pitch yet again, but he actually chased the scared young pitcher and threw his helmet at him. Notice Penny, who came out to join the party as Youkilis was leaving the field.

Once the dust settled, Bay tied the score and Francona, still a little worked up, got himself tossed. That fired him up even more. After the toss, is some awesome commentary by Eck on Brad Penny's late arrival and shower shoes.

Thank you, NESN!

Thanks to NESN and Don Orsillo, in particular, for pointing out the similarities between Disco Denny and Barry Gibb.

Why is there not a DH in the All-Star game? Doesn't it more guys a chance to play????

That Little Leprechaun

A little leprechaun joined the Sox on the field yesterday, to bring them luck in their quest for the Mayor's Cup. Apparently David Ortiz taped the number 15 on his back. Very funny. The little fellow later joined Don and Jerry in the booth. Man, baseball on St. Patrick's Day is fun!

Fenway Flashback: The Homer Inning

September 30, 2007
Fenway Park

It was the last game of the regular season. With nothing left to clinch and the Papelbon jig videos gone stale, Don allowed Jerry to indulge in a homer inning. The video is long, so be patient and let it load. It's worth the laughs.

Fenway Flashback: The Morning After

September 29, 2007
Fenway Park

the man who is supposed to take you to the promised land

What began with a quiet Dice-K win ended in the wee hours of the morning with beer boxes on heads and Irish jigs. There were clearly consequences to such reckless abandon and Jerry and Don were there to hand them out. NESN's game coverage began with this lovely montage:

And Don and Jerry spent a good deal of the game provide commentary of the festivities and little Ellsbury was obviously lost his little rookie mind. I dare you not to laugh.

And a teeny little clip of Papelbon in the pen:

Fenway Flashback: Playing In the Band

September 11, 2007

The DEVIL Rays came to town, wearing green and grey vests and much fun ensued. It was late in the season and the team formerly known as the worst in the league was showing signs of what was to come. Much of that came in the form of Scott Kazmir, who out pitched Curt Schilling to win the first game of the series 1-0. As the score suggests, there wasn't a lot of action, other than pitching dominance. The highlight was the appearance of Clay Buchholz in the bullpen band and Julian Tavarez' refusal to participate, topped off by the always outstanding band play-by-play of Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo. Thanks to NESN for the clip.

Lenny!

As if the game weren't good enough -- nesn posted Lenny Clark's appearance at the Yawkey NESN desk. Funny funny shit...

King of the world

Nothing is better than watching Dustin Pedroia hitting in the clean-up spot. As if the guy doesn't play hard enough -- the pressure is really on to live up to his mouth when he's batting clean-up. So what does that little guy do -- he gets on base every single at bat and plays an extraordinary second base. He is phenomenal. The only thing that is more fun to watch is Terry Francona running out to argue a safe call on Pedoria's behalf. Here's the play

and Don and Jerry awarded Tito the "Twisted but True" award for the play:

Fenway Flashback: Remy Rocks

May 17 2007
It was a long 3 hours between games of the double header and someone got a little giddy...

Fenway Flashback: The Flying Pizza

As you know, I'm reliving the 2007 season from top to bottom. The game I watched Monday was the "Flying Pizza" game. I can't watch this clip without laughing aloud....

I love NESN! =)
