Josh Beckett Has Oblique Strain, Wall Street Panics
Okay, so one has little to do with the other, but it's definitely a day for panic. The good news is that our new ACE, Jon Lester, won AL Pitcher of the Month for September, proving that he's THE man to have on the mound in game 1. Sorry, I have to keep telling myself that, to try to avoid panic....

Wardrobe Malfunction
Video courtesy of MLB.com and FSN Northwest
Last night, Lester grabbed his, ahem, groin in the 7th inning, prompting a visit from Jason Varitek, followed by Terry Francona and Paul Lessard. It was later reported that it was "discreet equipment adjustment". Now that's as funny as Manny getting in trouble for jaywalking!
BTW, I'm still having trouble with the flash player. It's playing the videos twice, still, so if you bother to watch them, hit pause at the midpoint. I spent most of today trying out other players but haven't been able to get any to cooperate with blogger.

Boys will be boys...
Lots of antics over the weekend at Fenway Park... Clip one is Lester harrassing the robotic dugout camera. You know you're in trouble when your young pitcher is trying to emulate your bad boy ace and your rookie pitcher, in turn, emulates your young pitcher. Luckily, Lester has better aim with a baseball than with sunflower seeds.
And Jerry Remy was in fine form when he got a new cellphone from NESN.
And Julio Lugo wound up in left field!
And somehow, through it all, the Sox have found themselves back on top...

Fenway Flashback: When Jonny Comes Marching Home Again
August 14 2007
It was Jon Lester's first start at Fenway Park in 2007 and he was greeted with quite a reception.
And he threw an outstanding game, giving up only one run and two hits over 7 innings. Lester had outstanding command of all of his pitches -- except for that first walk. He might have been a bit nervous ;)

NESN had a mic on Dustin Pedroia and provided this funny little clip:
And shortly thereafter an earthquake occurred -- no, it was just Kyle Snyder goofing around in the pen...
But the real highlight was the ninth inning. I'm still cuckoo for Coco Crisp!

Fenway Flashback: The Comeback Kid

Cleveland, Ohio
Jon Lester made his first major league appearance of the season! He started strong, but then got himself in a little trouble in the 4th inning...Just when it was starting to look like he was maybe back too soon, Lester dug himself out of his mess and went on to score himself the win! Here's the dramatic end of the fourth innning...
