Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on...let's play and play and keep on playing well past the point that you are out of players...

Innings 1-5 prove my theory that all-star games are boring as hell. Inning 6, I realize that we might actually lose home field advantage in the world series. Inning 7, I start to get stressed out that we will lose home field advantage. What the heck? Doesn't the AL always win??? Inning 7, JD Freaking Drew, I love you! I pray for you to get a base hit and what do you do, in your first all-star appearance? You hit a 2-run homerun!! In Yankee stadium!!! Lovelovelove drew! Tied game... Inning 8, reliving all the papelbon bum controvery and realize that Navarro and the DEVIL Rays from which he hails SUCK. Papelbon proves that with a decent catcher, he rules the MLB. I begin to regret the pinch hit for the slumping Tek and begin to rethink the logic in making the all-star game count... Inning 8, I, in my head, challenge Eva, I mean, Evan, Longoria to prove the the Rays aren't flukey crap. He does. I am temporarily grateful as the game is again tied. Inning 9, Tito goes to Riveria as he suspects his boys will score in the 9th. Tito is wrong. It is too good to be true that JD Drew might hit two out of the park... Inning 10, Mo's a go. I'm starting to think this is a freaking good game. Starting to rethink Tito's little league strategy of everyone plays. He's out of bench players. But it's not like the boys he has in suck or anything,,, . ... .... 15th inning, I awake covered in mosquito bites. Am I camping? The game is still on. holy crap. Jeter is showered and wearing a golf shirt and mocking Tito, who is wearing a uniform shirt. Youk is seen drinking a red bullnot a slumpbuster.. It's 1:30am EST and it's all up to Drew. He walks. Bases loaded. Corey Hart (who doesn't wear his sunglasses at night) hits a walk off sac fly and Tito is happier than he was when the Sox won the series. Whew! and JD Freaking Drew rocks the MVP in his first All-Star game! I have to take this opportunity to say I've loved JD since he was better known as Nancy Drew!

Home, Sweet Home

It's been rainy and cold here for the better part of the week. It's getting depressing. And the Sox.... well, that's getting depressing, too. So I decided to take a trip down memory lane to last week when the boys hit 2 grand slams in one game.

Red Sox vs. Giants: JD Drew's Grandslam

The Sox beat the Japanese Giants 9-2. The highlight was JD Drew's grandslam homerun. The highlight for the Japanese seemed to be Dice-K getting knocked over by high-fives celebrating the grandslam. Japanese tv showed the clip over and over again...

In the opening ceremonies Terry Francona was crowned first runner up in the manager beauty pagent...

Red Sox vs. Hanshin Tigers: 1st Inning

Pedroia stuck out. Youkilis struck out. I began to think it was going to be a surprisingly tough game. I also realized I have embarrassingly little knowledge of the metric system... And then David Ortiz hit a nice, easy homerun. Here is his at-bat. Enjoy the commentary ;)
Big Papi's homer was followed by a couple of basehits and then a 3 run homerun by JD Drew. Man, it is nice to see Drew swing like this. Good times to come... I started to think this might go like those college games...

Fenway Flashback: And I'm Still Cuuuckooooo for Coco Crisp!

June 20, 2007
Turner Field, Atlanta

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE LEAD OFF HOMERUNS! JD Drew hit one against the Braves to start a little first inning homerun derby... Drews run was quickly followed by none other than my new favorite Red Sox, Coco Crisp! The Braves intentionally walked Tek (huh?) to pitch to my little Coco Crisp. Did they forget he hit two homeruns against them just 2 games earlier? Well, they must have thought it was a fluke, but they were wrong. Coco is hotter than hot... Check it:

Not to be outdone, Big Papi hit a homer in the second and the homerun dancing began:

A couple of innings later, Manny joined in the homerun fun. And then even Hinske got in on the action. Here's a little clip of all those big swings.

And here's even more dancing. This clip is a little long as the announcers are just fascinated by Manny being Manny...

That said, the weirdest part of the night. Tavarez threw a 7 inning shutout.. i might be starting to like interleague play =)

Fenway Flashback: Drew Who?

June 8, 2007
Chase Field (That's in Arizona)

Lugo hit a lead off homerun in the first inning against the D-Backs. Nothing says 'We're gonna kick your ass' quite like a lead off homerun. Love me the lead off homerun!

But this interleague game belonged entirely to JD Drew. I knew he had it in him! ;) JD's little brother plays shortstop for Arizona and I don't know if it was the sibling rivalry or the return to the National League but JD came out of his slump in a serious way. He hit TWO (yes TWO) 3-run homeruns and had another RBI to top it off. JD handed Beckett his 9th win (9-0) on a silver platter.

So here are the two homeruns, some gushing about the Sox (I love it when the opposing announcers gush about the Sox), and a little Drew brothers comparison AND if you watch closely you'll even see a little victory dance by Drew and the boys in the dugout! Sorry about the choppy editing. I haven't figured out how to smooth it out yet. That might be a good project of the snowy weekend...
